How We'll Work
Hi everyone! I hope you're ready to make some serious progress on your chapter over the next 10 weeks!
We'll be taking an iterative approach, focusing first on the big-picture stuff like structure and argumentation at the section and paragraph level before diving into nitty-gritty revisions later on.
The core of the program is the weekly Zoom call (Tuesdays 1–2:30pm Eastern) + the lessons here on Teachable. On Monday, the week's set of lessons will unlock, and I'll send you an email telling you what to do (and how to adapt the week's work if you're running behind or you're short on time). On Tuesday, we'll meet on Zoom to share our victories and challenges, troubleshoot specific issues, and preview the week's writing exercises by trying them out in short co-working sprints. For the rest of the week, you'll work through the lessons. On Friday at 1pm Eastern, I'l hold an optional 60-minute coworking session/office hour. On Monday, we'll do it all again!
If you can't make the meetings, don't worry! I'll make the recordings available, usually within 24 hours.
Throughout the workshop, we'll follow a rhythm: first you'll generate some messy writing; then you'll clean it up. At each stage, I'll give you specific exercises to try. My hope is that through this process of trying things out, you'll develop a method that works for you, something you can refer back to the next time you're facing a big writing project.
To prep, start corralling your materials: any previous chapter drafts, research notes, related papers—anything topically relevant. And if you're having any doubts about the macro-structure of your book—‚the logic of the table of contents, the division of material into chapters—I highly recommend completing Chapter 2 of The Dissertation-to-Book Workbook, even if your book isn't based on a dissertation. You can download that chapter for free here: https://go.dissertationtobook.com/.
